For the life of me i cannot remember my last door but that is probably because i didnt realize at the time that it was my last although i can remember my first at about 5 years old on my own for goodness sake. My last meeting i do remember the 97 memorial at a friends congo, did not know a soul and the congo kept it that way, not one person even approached me or my wife,oh the love we felt, i vividly remember we had the exact same feeling in the car on the way home . thats it its over.

Three years ago i decided to do what i had always wanted to and joined the airforce which i am immensly proud of and enjoy greatly ,somrthing i could never say about being a jw. Now comes the problem ,my family with the exception of my dad are all jw still as are my wife,s family and all know i am in the airforce because i was honest and told them so. Also my wife,s stepfather is an elder, to his credit when i told him he said because i had no contact with the congo he would just let it sleep, however today he told me the society has decided they need to check up on people like me to find out there status and that he has told the elders there is an issue concerning me and that by my actions i have da,d myself but that it was a loving thing on the orgs part to check on my spiritual welfare. after 10 years and not an elder in sight i think its a little late. Who are they protecting, the congo who i have no contact with ? The only thing this will do is stop our family seeing us because it certainly wont make me beg forgiveness and renounce my evil warmongering ways as they see it So now i am waiting the knock on the door and isnt that going to be an interesting conversation because if they think they have any jurisdiction over me they really are deluded.
Bye for now Mr curious.

Should Religion Be Exempt From Ethical Standards?
by AlanF ini want to raise this serious question: should religion be exempt from normal societal ethical standards?.
i'm raising this question for several reasons.
there is a recent thread where people are arguing about whether religious confessions should be privileged communications.

If we're not to respect the clergy-penitient privelege, then why on earth should we respect lawyer-client privelege
Yerusalyim, you miss the point of lawyer/client privilege, in Australia there are 2 anyway! ;(pretty sure there are 2 n the USA as well) ;The point is that the relationship is suspose to be based on trust and it is not there fot the lawyer to advise or judge the client, the lawyer is acting for the client in obtaining what he wants, usually a legal defence, a client is not interested in the moral opinions of the lawyer and the lawyer doesnt express any. If lawyers were in a position of having to disclose what transpired within the relationship with regard to communications then the legal system would shut down as every accused person would be advised to "shut up' and plea not guilty as the state has to prove any criminal charge, plea's and settlements would become non existent.
Whereas a clergy-penitent privilege is engaged so the confessor can attain absolution, forgiveness, or whatever else. The communication is not used or created in defence of a legal problem, it's purpose is to solve moral problems. And as such my opinion is that as soon as the clergy are confronted with a legal problem it should immediatiely be handed over to the appropriate authorites. A church should never been in the position of shielding criminals and illegal activity. There is a clear ethic conflict of duty for the church if they do this - and this is to be strictly avoided by legal professionals as well as others

Hello Ray
Im not sure how its done in the states but in Australia you can check with the law society/association and ask for a reference for a solicitor/lawyer either in your area or in the area of law you need. There is always the interent to search as many lawyers advertise or have homepages. Then there are the courts, if you have time, go down to your family court and watch.. this way you can see them in action before you commit yourself. Also most lawyers have the first interview free, but dont expect any answer - its not how the law works. the best advise is to be prepared. Have all the necessary information, dates of seperation, list of assets and laibilites and any interim custody orders and any other issues that have arisen (dom violence, etc etc).
Also it would be worthy of knowing where and in what environment you child will be residing (in the family home or not, staying with people etc etc). My strongest advise would be to NOT leave the family home, if possible seperate by relocating into another room and seperate all financial arrangements this includes bank accounts and always maintain any records, especially financial. What you pay for and when and what financial support you provide, keep cheque butts and receipts.(and do not under any circumstances resume a sexual relationship, as this will alter the seperation date, unless you are considering the seperation)
If your children are above a certain age (in Australia 12) the court will give careful consideration to their wishes especially in regard to where they want to live and with whom. And remember not to use the kids as weapons, because you will regret it later as they will remember it and it could well sour your relationship with them - which could take a lifetime to heal. (personal experience)
I hope this helps - dont take it as gospel as Im in Australia but just as friendly advise.
Wish you well Curious Mind

What I have a hard time understanding is how any clergy, JW elder's included, would be able to claim this privilege when a victim comes forward asking for help. This is not a case of eccesiastical privilege. The victim is not confessing.
A brief explanation: Privilege does not belong to the lawyer, clergy or any other, it is the property of the victim or the confessor..... therefore privilege can always be waived by the person who owns it... that is why a lawyer, clergy can not disclose... because simply he doesnt own it.
However when the confession involves crimes, whether past or present - the information is no longer privilege beause their is a duty to disclose (in Australia this is the position, not sure about US or UK), this is especially true in cases of child abuse. (this is written is law in different acts).
hope this helps Lady Lee

JW Baptism Misrepresentation/Ilegal for under 18's

Quoting Neon Madman: think their answer to that assertion - particularly with reference to those baptized under the post-1985 questions - would be that part of the "contract" was your acceptance of the "faithful and discreet slave" class as God's channel of communication. You also accepted the doctrine of "new light" - that there would be revisions in doctrine from time to time at the whim of the slave. Therefore, any given change in doctrine could have been anticipated under the terms of the original agreement, and is therefore not a reason to negate that agreement.
Good Point however your point is based on the accepting of 'new light' and the differences in post and pre 1985 baptism, however you must remember that the information that you are dealing with is somewhat different from the situation outside the USA, which appears to be ahead of the 'outposts'. I was baptised in 1987, my baptisimal questions fit more in the catergory of those pre 1985, as they did not make any reference of the faithful and discrete slave etc etc. Also the argument is based on every cong doing the same thing and every baptisimal canidate having a complete knowledge, or the cong ensuring the canidate has a complete knowledge. Which is accepted as not being possible before baptism as baptism is only the beginning!!! (whatever that means)Now all of us out there realises that to be bound to a contract, i diosyncrasies of the contract, especially conditions of termination need to be brought to the attention of the joining party. So I think that pleasuredomes's point about misrepresentaion and possibliy misleading and deceptive conduct (australian legislation in the TPA Act) would be an intersting challenge.
Finally I did realise that the topic was spectulative but my point about being shunned anyway was me being pragmatic.....

interesting topic....
The part of this discussion that is of interest to me, if this is a contract.... ie say you were baptised in 1994 and then in 1995 they change a fundamental doctrine ie generation doctrine, the terms of the intitial contract have varied in such a fundamental way that it could be said that the contract is no longer in force as this new teaching has not been part and parcel of the "consent" of the intial contract. Is this making sense?? So therefore if you then leave the WT in 1995 because of the doctrine change, I would doubt that legally you are still bound to the contract. So in theory you couldnt be DF'ed.
But in essence any legal challenge against a DF'ing would be pointless, as you would still be shunned by everyone... and then there's the issue of not being able to take another brother or the WT to court

Where Does the $$ Come From??
by Dia inmany, many people have lengthy recollections of getting nowhere in field service.. no bible studies, not much placement of magazines or books, especially not for significant cash.. so where is the wts getting all their money from?.
i've been wondering..... are (and were) dubs expected to purchase a certain amount of materials every month and then just take on the responsibility of getting rid of it (and getting back their money) themselves?.
if so, you know what that would mean.... it would mean that the wts's millions mostly come from their own 'flock'.
